What is CBD Cream?
CBD cream is a safe, natural alternative to traditional pain relievers and insomnia medications. It is derived from hemp plants and has been found to offer many benefits, including increased relaxation, lower pain levels, and better sleep.
CBD cream for pain works by interacting with different receptors that regulate your body, including things like serotonin receptors and pain receptors. By positively impacting the way that you feel, CBD lotion can ease existing pains and prevent new aches from starting.
While numerous types of CBD cream are available, full-spectrum CBD offers maximum potency and the benefits of the entourage effect. Hemp plants have dozens of different compounds that are shown to help with different things, from arthritis to insomnia. Full-spectrum CBD is extracted from the hemp in a manner that preserves all the cannabinoids, terpenes and other natural compounds. This is the best way to get true relief from acute or chronic pain when you apply CBD cream.
The entourage effect in full–spectrum CBD cream relies on all of the small pieces that make hemp plants so special working together. If you choose a product that is CBD isolate instead of a full-spectrum or even broad-spectrum CBD lotion, there is a high chance you will be missing out on many of the benefits.
What is CBD Cream Used For?
CBD cream is a versatile substance that helps CBD penetrate the surface of the skin by placing it in a water-based or oil-based cream. Once the CBD has a chance to soak in, you will feel the effects of CBD cream for pain from the surface of your skin to the deep muscles that are aching. Because most creams come with other ingredients to increase their efficacy, like coconut oil and aloe vera, they can be used for regular moisturizing in addition to pain relief.
CBD topicals are safe and easy to use , and they are very popular for people who have chronic pain, those who like working out but hate being sore after, and active adults. CBD foot cream relieves itchy skin while helping you take a load off after a long day of spending time with family or standing on your feet at work. Because CBD is prescription drug-free, it’s easy to use in addition to existing soothing treatments in your routine.
How to Use CBD Cream
Topical CBD is applied externally to the surface of the skin and never swallowed or placed internally unless the manufacturer states that is safe. Read the directions on your CBD cream and use the appropriate amount on the part of your body that is in pain. Topical CBD is not dangerous , and it can be applied in addition to other products like transdermal patches. Every product has different effects, so wait until observing the effects of a first dose before applying a second dose.
How Long Does it Take for CBD Cream to Work?
Most CBD cream products take between 30-45 minutes to take effect. If you choose a CBD topical with other soothing ingredients like menthol or arnica, you will feel immediate cooling sensations as the cream gets to work. If you choose topical CBD products that have a high mg of CBD per dose, you should wait at least two hours before choosing to apply more.
Is CBD Legal?
The Farm Bill made it legal to grow hemp and create broad-spectrum and full-spectrum CBD products. Hemp extracts and topical creams are legal to buy and sell in all 50 states, providing that they contain less than .3% THC. Every reputable manufacturer should have detailed information on their website for each product that states the precise concentration of CBD, other cannabinoids (including THC) as well as other ingredients that are present.
FAQ: The Best CBD Cream Brands
Are there side effects to using CBD cream or CBD oil?
Compared with traditional over-the-counter medication, CBD topicals have very few side effects. However, there can be some side effects depending on the dosage you take and if you use topicals alongside other ingestible CBD products. Some of the side effects of CBD include drowsiness, changes in appetite, and diarrhea. Side effects are rare for CBD cream.
Is full-spectrum CBD or broad-spectrum CBD better?
In order to experience the full benefits of the entourage effect, it’s a good idea to choose a product with full-spectrum CBD. These products have all the pain-relief terpenes and positive compounds present in the hemp plant. For topicals, it is recommended that you do not choose a CBD isolate product. The three most common terms you will see when researching products include:
- Full-spectrum CBD, which is CBD that still contains 0.3% of THC or less, terpenes, hemp compounds, and cannabinoids
- Broad-spectrum CBD, which has no THC present but still has numerous other healthy hemp cannabinoids and terpenes
- CBD isolate, which only has CBD and does not contain THC, terpenes, or other beneficial hemp compounds
When should I use topicals? When should I use CBD oil instead?
Everyone metabolizes CBD differently, so some people prefer taking CBD oil and others prefer using CBD cream. Since both are approved nonprescription CBD products, you can use them separately or together. CBD drops or oils are great for daily use, before bed, or when you need to de-stress. Topical products work the best when applied directly to an area that is sore and offer powerful pain relief.
What is the best time to use CBD cream?
CBD cream can be used at any time during the day or night, and it works best when you have a specific part of the body that requires relief. Topical products have surprising efficacy despite not being orally ingested, so you can anticipate the effects to last for multiple hours. If you have a particular injury or muscle soreness you are trying to treat, you can reapply your CBD cream numerous times to prevent pain from returning.
Can you use CBD cream if you are pregnant or nursing?
While some products have a low mg of CBD per dosage, it is always best to check with your doctor before using them.
Will CBD creams or oils impact my medications?
As with any other over-the-counter medication or supplement, it’s best to speak with your healthcare team before consuming CBD sublingually or through the skin. CBD is completely safe to use when purchased from a reputable manufacturer but having additional medical guidance will confirm that none of the other ingredients will interact with medications that you are already taking.
Do CBD products make you feel high?
No. Because CBD products are derived from hemp plants and have 0.3% THC or less, they will not make you feel high or intoxicated. One of the only side effects of CBD is drowsiness, so you feel more tired after ingesting CBD, but that is different from the “high” associated with marijuana and THC. Even if you take large doses of CBD, you will not experience a high.
Can you use CBD cream for pain relief?
Many customers find that CBD is an effective way to ease pain, including pain from arthritis, injuries, and other ailments. There has been research performed on the connection between using CBD and experiencing pain relief, and as more studies happen, most industry experts anticipate this connection being strengthened even more.
Are there other uses of CBD?
Yes! CBD is amazingly versatile, whether it’s found in a topical CBD cream form or in an oil or capsule. Based on scientific literature and many anecdotal experiences from loyal customers, some of the uses of CBD include:
- Better sleep
- Less inflammation
- Lower stress levels
- Anxiety relief
- Lower pain levels
Because there are so many ways to enjoy CBD today, it’s easy to find a product that allows you to benefit from natural terpenes and cannabinoids, whether it’s sweet berry gummies or a topical ointment.
How can you choose the right CBD cream for your needs?
There are numerous factors that determine what cream or topical is best for your needs. As a rule of thumb, you should consider how the company extracts the CBD from hemp plants, what other ingredients are included in the cream, customer reviews, and what form of CBD you are interested in trying.
Companies that grow and manufacture their products in the US are held to higher standards, and many use organic farming to prevent solvents and pesticides from entering any of the products. Any company with a good reputation will have laboratory testing results available on their website for every product. These results will show you exactly what is inside, so you don’t need to worry about too-high levels of THC or contaminants you never want to ingest.
Additionally, the companies we’ve included in this guide to the best CBD cream have products available in a broad range of price points. Many companies offer bundles and samplers to allow you to try products before buying a larger size. Some even have 60-day money-back guarantees, so you can make sure that the CBD cream works well for your needs.
Will CBD cream use show up on a drug test?
CBD products contain levels of THC below 0.3%, but drug tests are designed solely to detect THC and not CBD. Particularly if you are consuming full-spectrum CBD oils, gummies, and other products, there is a chance that your test might mistake CBD usage for THC usage. It’s best to speak with your employer about your CBD use so that they understand your test results. If you are very concerned about your drug test or unable to have any THC, choose a CBD isolate product.
Most manufacturers display detailed test results on their websites. When you are worried about CBD being in your urine or blood, check third-party laboratory tests to confirm that advertised levels of THC are accurate.
Can you travel with CBD topicals?
Providing that you are traveling domestically, CBD products that contain 0.3% or less THC are completely legal because of the 2018 Farm Bill. Make sure that your cream is in a container that meets TSA standards if you are boarding a plane. When traveling internationally, check the laws of each country that you will be stopping in to make sure that CBD products are not regulated.
Do you need a prescription to use or receive CBD?
No! CBD is not a prescription medication, and it is legal to produce and consume because of the 2018 Farm Bill. There are prescription medications that use hemp-derived compounds, but the CBD cream options as well as other products available on the websites listed above can be sold and used safely by any adult.
If you already take prescription medication, check with your doctor before adding CBD to your daily routine. Because it is safe and well-researched, there is a high chance your doctor will encourage it.
What are terpenes?
Terpenes are one of the things that makes CBD so magical. These compounds occur naturally in hemp plants, and they each have different smells and flavors that add to what most people traditionally associate with Cannabis sativa. The distillation process is designed to preserve terpene content so that every user can receive maximum benefits.
Different terpenes are associated with different health effects, For example, one of the most powerful terpenes is known as Myrcene. This terpene helps improve relaxation and ease pain. That is just one of the dozens of terpenes present in a single CBD product.
What CBD Cream is the Best?
It can be hard to live with chronic pain, arthritis, and persistent injuries that prevent you from living your life the way that you want to. One of the best ways to preserve your well-being and stay active as you age is CBD cream. Premium CBD cream containing the full benefits of terpenes will soothe your skin, moisturize your body, and penetrate deep below the surface for better pain relief.
All the high-quality products featured in this blog are better ways to manage your pain, and they come without the long lists of side effects that over-the-counter supplements and prescription medications do. Our favorite brand for CBD topicals and Editor’s Choice was CBDfx . This company is at the forefront of innovation for creams and lotions that get real results.

Can delta 8 make you fail a drug test?
THC’s euphoric effects are fun, but they fade. Usually, the high is gone after just a few short hours. Meanwhile, THC metabolites stay in your system for sometimes weeks after your most recent use. Can the same be said for delta 8 THC? Can delta 8 make you fail a drug test?
We want to explore the answers in-depth in this guide today. If you want to try delta 8 but want to make sure you won’t pop dirty on a drug test, this is the guide for you.
Afterward, be sure to browse through our delta 8 products to see which ones call out to you first.
What is Delta 8 THC?
There are over 100 different cannabinoids in the cannabis plant. You may even already be familiar with some of them. THC, CBD, CBN, and CBG are all cannabinoids, for example. The THC you may be most familiar with, however, is formally known as delta 9 THC.
And that’s because delta 9 THC isn’t the only form of THC in the plant.
A minor cannabinoid, delta 8 THC is a less-potent form of THC. Dr. Raphael Mechoulam, often touted as the “Father of Cannabis,” discovered the THC in 1965.
Of all the minor cannabinoids in the plant, delta 8 appears to be one of the most intoxicating. It has the ability to get you high and cause other effects similar to marijuana’s more abundant version of THC.
In fact, it’s just one reason we chose delta 8. It’s why we choose to grow our own hemp through aquaponics and then rosin press for our extracts. Our delta 8 extracts are powerful, still potent, and fully legal. Talk about a win-win-win.

So, delta 8 THC shares similarities with delta 9, but they are still different, too. After all, they’re distinctly varying forms of the THC molecule.
If they’re so different, then can delta 8 THC make you fail a drug test still? Let’s look at why and how they’re so different to explore the answer further.
What’s the Difference Between Delta 8 and Delta 9 THC?
Alright, delta 8 and delta 9 are different forms of the same THC molecule. What the heck does that even mean? Well, it means they have similar chemical structures, which is why they have similar effects on the body.
Because it’s a less potent form, though, users note significantly less intense effects. That means delta 8 can make you feel high, but at a lesser degree than pot. It may also have similar therapeutic effects, but, again, not as intensely as with weed.
The difference in the two types of THC’s chemical structure is what makes delta 9 more unstable.
A less stable THC means it’s more potent and likely to cause a reaction within the body. It may even explain why the body takes these THC molecules through the endocannabinoid system in two very different ways.
So, delta 9 makes you fail a drug test. But can delta 8 make you fail a drug test, too?
While it’s legal through hemp, yes, you might fail a drug test with delta 8 in your system.
However, it may not be for the reason that you think. Likewise, it depends on the type of drug test being used as well as other factors.
The frequency of delta 8 use, your metabolism and weight, gender, age, and more also play into it.
It’s important to understand how drug tests work when it comes to THC, though. Most people think the tests look for delta 9 THC metabolites. Currently, most drug tests aren’t quite that advanced enough yet. Instead, drug tests look for THC metabolites rather than any specific cannabinoid.
Urine tests, for example, work to detect delta 9 THC’s primary inactive metabolite, also known as THC-COOH.
These metabolites can be detected after use, especially in the urine, because they’re stored in our fat cells.
If you have no actual delta 9 THC in your system, this might be considered a false positive. Likewise, if you use a pure delta 8 product that contains 0.3% delta 9 THC or less, you may be able to explain.
While you’re likely to pop positive on a THC drug test, it may not be enough to rule you out. Make sure you communicate with whoever you must take a drug test for. Inform them of the delta 8 product you wish to take and try to get confirmation or approval that you can use it beforehand.
Hemp is still facing an uphill battle across much of the nation, but it’s making progress all the time. More people accept industrial hemp and its many uses every day.
What Can You Use Instead of Delta 8?
Don’t want to risk the possibility of failing a drug test? We understand that, too. The potential to fail a drug test for an important job, health appointment, or legal requirement is all too real for many people.
Fortunately, there are many hemp-based products with no THC in them. We even offer a variety of THC-free, broad-spectrum hemp products ourselves!
What can you use instead of delta 8? You’ve got options!
We might first recommend getting into a routine with CBD. You can do that through our Broad-Spectrum Natural CBD Oil or our Broad-Spectrum Mint CBD Oil for a different taste.
Alternatively, some people don’t like putting oil under their tongue to feel effects. That’s where our softgels come in handy. We have CBD softgels, as well as CBD + Melatonin and CBD + Curcumin. (Melatonin is great for the evenings, while curcumin can help you gear up for the day.)
How Long Does Delta 8 THC Stay in Your System?
While it’s a less-potent THC, delta 8 is still a THC, which means it lingers in the body just like any other THC would. Even for first-time users, THC has the potential to stay in your urine for 4 to 8 days.
Heavy delta 8 users, be prepared to pop a false positive on a drug test for 30 to 60 days – sometimes even longer. This varies from person to person, namely due to the other factors in play for how long THC stays in your system.
Again, though, delta 9 THC is what’s illegal. Delta 8 THC products derived from hemp are legal, just like CBD.
Since THC clings to fat cells, how active you are, and your current weight plays a role in how long it’ll last in your body. Other variables include your cannabis tolerance, length of use, and more.
How to Avoid Testing Positive on a Drug Test
Ideally, you don’t want to fail a drug test. You might not have legal access to cannabis, so delta 8 is a perfect alternative for you. Either way, if you’re a delta 8 user and have a drug test coming up, it’s not the end of the world. There’s no need to panic!
As we said earlier, delta 8 and delta 9 look almost molecularly identical. That means they’re likely to require about the same amount of time to clear out of your system. Fortunately, you can still pass depending on how much time you have before the test.
- For the occasional delta 8 users, you might be able to pass after one to five days of a tolerance break.
- If you’re more of a regular user, it ups the timeline by one to three weeks.
- For the everyday, heavy users, it could take you four to six weeks or longer before you come up clean on a test.
Further Reading: When to Take a Tolerance Break from Delta 8
Knowing how frequently you use delta 8, plan out when to start your tolerance break.
There are also a few other solutions that may help speed up the process.
Make sure your diet is healthy and nutritious, for example.
Start exercising to get a sweat on. Little ways you can help kickstart your metabolism can help burn through the THC metabolites faster in your body!
Maybe your employer wants a saliva test instead of a urinalysis. Delta 8 users can often test clean one to five days after their last consumption.
Can Delta 8 Make You Fail a Drug Test?
- So, will you fail a drug test if you take delta 8 THC? Well, yes – but only because it would read as a false positive.
The fact that you have THC in your system doesn’t mean you’ve consumed delta 9 THC, which is the form of THC actually illegal. As we said, drug tests are not finely tuned, and the room for error is far and wide. The chances of delta 8 THC showing up on any generic drug test is not zero, simply put.
In fact, if you’re taking an at-home test, the THC is even more likely to show up. This is because at-home testing is typically the least advanced of all drug tests. These types of tests are not able to differentiate from cannabinoids, which is why they’ll pop positive for CBD as well.
Whether you’re consuming delta 9 THC from marijuana or delta 8 THC from hemp, the cannabinoids metabolize into the same THC metabolites in your body.
That means consuming any amount of any THC can cause you to fail a drug test. However, the legal limit is 0.03% delta 9 THC in a CBD or hemp-derived product. That means our delta 8 THC products, which contain 0.3% delta 9 THC or less, are, in fact, legal to consume.
Communicate with whoever wishes to drug screen you and let them know about your delta 8 THC use. Show them that you’re not breaking any laws by using a legal product, and you may be able to avoid any hassle in the long run.
- Delta 8 THC is legal as a derivative of hemp thanks to the 2018 Farm Bill.
- While it’s legal federally, a handful of states have specifically banned either delta 8 or hemp entirely.
- The compound’s effects and its structure are similar to that of the THC found in marijuana, though it’s less potent.
- Its potency may help you have a shorter tolerance break if you opt to not partake before your drug test!
- While delta 8 can potentially make you fail a drug test, you may be able to demonstrate that you’re using a legal product.
- Let the parties involved know ahead of time that you use a hemp product.
