Tomorrow is Luna’s third birthday so I thought it would be nice to spoil her with a new pup-tent and some nice and relaxing CBD dog treats to celebrate her life!

DISCLAIMER: CBD has many health benefits for both pets and humans. It’s important to only use CBD that is specifically made for pets with no harmful flavors or additives. If you have questions about giving your pet CBD, consult your vet.

When in doubt, only use commerically made CBD pet treats if you are worried about not getting the doseage right. If you are willing to take the ‘risk’ with homemade CBD treats, these treats had great results with my dogs. They are made to be easy on their tummies and are great for digestion. But, you know your pet the best! Do what you – and your vet – agree is best for your dog.

This recipe was NOT SPONSORED but I can’t help but shout out Pet Releaf brand CBD. Specifically, I used the Hemp Oil 330 in this recipe. Pet Releaf is an affordable brand that produces high quality CBD that I’ve personally seen great results with (from my dogs – I didn’t take it myself!).

The most important part is that the CBD oil is NOT meant for human consumption as additives such as flavoring can be bad for your pet.

For Luna’s birthday, we spent the day building her a pup-tent – complete with a heated blanket in the bottom and twinkle lights in the top. Of course, she had a little sampling of her CBD treats prior to filming this, so she was full on relaxation mode by the time we started the shoot.

Theo has Addison’s disease and while he has to get monthly steroid injections and be on other medications – CBD helps to regulate his mood and keep him in high spirits on days he doesn’t feel 100%.

Keep the treats stored in an airtight container and in the fridge for up to a week. Freeze any leftover cookies for up to 6 months and thaw prior to serving for a soft and tasty treat.

CBD Oils Recipes for Pets: How to Make CBD Dog Treats and Salve?

Dogs and other pets have an endocannabinoid system in their brain, skin, and other parts of the body. It is very similar to the human endocannabinoid system, meaning CBD oils, edibles and topicals can provide many benefits. The main difference between pets and humans using CBD is that pets weigh less, so the dosage of CBD oil and CBD oil treats needs adjusting to reflect that fact. You can buy premade CBD treats or make your own so your pet treats contain the exact flavors and nutritional content desired.

Is CBD Oil Safe for My Dog?

Research on the use of CBD oil products for pets is limited. However, there are some studies that have demonstrated CBD oil’s benefits for animals.

In one study, dogs were given doses of CBD oil, and they experienced decreased pain with no side effects. In this particular study, the dogs were given 2 mg of CBD oil twice daily. (PMID: 30083539). In general, CBD oil is safe for your dog but with the following conditions.

  • Administer in an appropriate dosage for your pet’s weight
  • Use a high-quality CBD oil
  • Use CBD oil derived from the hemp plant and not just hemp seeds to get CBD benefits
  • Be aware of the potential of THC being present in products in states where marijuana is legal

It is very important to buy from companies that provide a clear ingredients list for your review. Most of the information available today is based on the experiences of pet owners. Many owners decide to try CBD oil to see if it helps calm their pet that experiences separation anxiety or has a fear of fireworks or if it benefits a health issue.

How Much CBD Should I Give to My Dog?

There is not a standard CBD dosing recommendation for pets at this time. One recommendation is to allow one milligram per 10 pounds of your pet’s weight. This means you need to know how many milligrams of CBD are in a milliliter of CBD oil in the bottle. A standard bottle dropper normally holds one milliliter of CBD oil.

To obtain the dosage amount, divide the CBD milligrams by the total amount of oil in the bottle. For example, one 30 milliliter bottle of CBD has 500 milligrams of CBD. One dropper of CBD oil is 16.6 milligrams of CBD:

500 mg CBD/30 ml = 16.6 mg / 1 ml.

If your dog weighs 20 pounds, you will only need to administer two milligrams (20 pounds/10 pounds), a small amount in the dropper.

How to Make CBD Dog Treats, Oils, and Salve?

CBD pet care products come in several forms.

  • CBD edibles – chewable capsules and treats
  • CBD oils – add to food or place under the pet’s tongue
  • CBD topicals – balms, salves, and creams rubbed on the skin

You can buy pet treats and salves or make your own. Following are a few recipes to give you an idea of what is involved in making CBD oil treats or salves for dogs.

Recipe #1. Baked CBD Dog Treats

How to Make CBD Dog Treats

Your pet and you will love all the benefits of this CBD Oil Dog Treats recipe.

There are many reasons why people have been giving their pets CBD-infused treats.

CBD is a compound derived from hemp.

It’s an ingredient commonly found in food and supplements and is believed to provide many medicinal properties and benefits.

There have been many studies done about the effects of CBD in dogs and they have shown that CBD may help decrease anxiety and other serious conditions.

Other potential health benefits include helping your dog sleep more, relieving joint pain, and increasing their appetite.

CBD is also believed to help alleviate stomach pain, reducing digestive distress.

Benefits Of Making Your Own CBD Treats

CBD and hemp-infused treats are available on many websites, including popular online pet stores like PetCareRx.

However, there are many benefits of making your own CBD treats.

Home-made treats are more nutritious because you control the ingredients you put in them.

There are lots of ways to prepare these CBD dog treats.

The recipe is simple, but the results can be very beneficial for your pet.

There are no preservatives or additives, which makes it quite safe for you and your canine companion.

Making your own treats is the only way you’ll be 100% sure of the ingredients in the treats you’re giving your pet.

There are some things to keep in mind though when preparing these treats.

The key to using CBD dog treats is to keep them fresh and to make sure your dog consumes them thoroughly when administered to them.

Many owners make their own treats do so for the safety of their pets, especially if their dogs are allergic to anything.

Giving your pet treats made by someone else can harm your pet if they have any allergies.

They’re a great resource for everything CBD and feature some amazing CBD products.

CBD Dog Treats Ingredients

1 cup apple sauce

½ cup peanut butter

¼ cup of coconut oil

1 tsp. baking soda

Full Spectrum CBD Oil Extract (We use Veritas Farms CBD Oil for Dogs-Bacon Flavor)

CBD Dog Treats Recipe

Before you begin, make sure you’re using all-natural ingredients, and these ingredients don’t have any artificial flavors or chemicals added to them.

One extremely dangerous ingredient you should avoid is xylitol, as this sweetener can be fatal to your pet even in the smallest doses.

Before you begin, turn your oven on and let it preheat to 340 degrees Fahrenheit.

Mix the apple sauce, peanut butter, old-fashioned oats, and coconut oil thoroughly in a bowl.

Once these ingredients are mixed, add the baking soda and flour while constantly stirring so these ingredients won’t clump up.

Mix all the ingredients except the CBD until you get a dough-like substance.

Keep in mind that you might need to make some adjustments and add additional flour or water if necessary.

1 ½ cups creamy peanut butter (I use “natural” Skippy)

1 ½ cups old-fashioned oats

1 cup unsweetened applesauce

1/4 cup coconut oil

3 cups flour (whole wheat is recommended)

1 teaspoon baking powder

At this point, you have two options.

You can either make small balls with your dough and make them into cookies or use a cookie cutter to cut your cookies into shapes.

If you do the latter, make sure your dough is at least half an inch thick.

Before putting your cookies in the oven, line your pan with wax or parchment paper.

This will ensure that your cookies don’t burn or stick from the bottom.

Once your pan is lined, put the cookies in the oven for 15 minutes.

Then the cooking time ends; take your pan out of your oven and let your treats cool.

You can add the last ingredient, CBD, when dog treats are cool.

You can simply put a drop or two (depending on your vet’s recommended dosage) on top of each cookie and let it absorb before giving the treat to your dog.

Serving Tips:

This recipe will make several dozen, so you should have enough to give one or two treats to your dog for almost a month, depending on the dosage.

Make sure you keep these treats in a moisture-free, airtight container so they won’t go bad or become stale. We recommend an airtight container stored in the refrigerator.

Limit your dog to one or two daily treats, depending on their dosage.

If unsure of their dosage, please talk to your dog’s veterinarian first.
