50mg CBD Facial Moisturizer

The first item in this elf Full Spectrum CBD Collection is the 50mg CBD Facial Moisturizer. It is a white gel-cream moisturizer that is mostly a cream. This product is incredibly lightweight so that it quickly absorbs into the skin. It does effectively moisturize all day. Additionally, it works well on its own or under makeup, and it also plays nice with their facial oils. It is worth mentioning in this elf CBD moisturizer review that it will not control oil production on combination to oily skin since the formula leans more toward cream.

Claims: This gel-cream moisturizer is packed with skin-loving ingredients. It is lightweight and should awaken the senses.

Key Ingredients:

  • Full Spectrum CBD: known to soothe and nourish the skin
  • Hyaluronic Acid: helps provide hydration by locking in moisture resulting in a plumped up, bouncy complexion
  • Sweet Almond Oil: known to retain moisture

Directions: Massage onto clean, dry skin morning and night.

100mg CBD Facial Oil

Second is the 100mg CBD Facial Oil. This oil is lightweight and absorbs right into the skin without leaving behind a greasy feeling. Because of that, I can actually wear this on makeup and no makeup days alike without worrying about getting oily skin! It does provide an extra boost of hydration, and it plays nice with the CBD moisturizer. I look forward to using this product everyday as a part of my routine.

Claims: This oil should be non-greasy and fast absorbing to balance the skin. It should also invigorate the senses and soothe.

Key Ingredients:

  • Full spectrum CBD: known to soothe and nourish the skin
  • Marula Oil: helps balance skin
  • Grapeseed Oil: helps retain moisture

Directions: Place the desired amount onto clean, dry skin.

5mg CBD Lip Oil

Third is the 5mg CBD Lip Oil. This oil is clear and makes your lips look glossy and juicy without leaving them feeling greasy and disgusting. It does effectively moisturize the lips when paired with exfoliation. Peppermint gives your lips a cooling sensation while also opening the sinuses. This elf CBD lip oil will make a great addition to my nighttime routine once I run out of lip balms and related products!

Claims: This oil should moisturize and restore the lips with a non-greasy or sticky formula. It will leave the lips looking smooth and supple.

Key Ingredients:

  • Full Spectrum CBD: known to soothe and nourish the skin
  • Sunflower Extract: known to retain moisture

Directions: Apply as needed for smooth and supple lips.

50mg CBD Body Cream

Fourth is the 50mg CBD Body Cream. This white cream is incredibly lightweight and absorbs quickly into the skin without a greasy residue. You might be surprised how well a little bit goes a long way, which is also a relief with the $18 price point. However, I can still use this product up much faster than my typical drugstore lotion that costs only a few dollars. Ultimately, I am iffy on the value here. Anyway, this product absolutely works and effectively moisturizes the skin.

Claims: This lotion helps to soothe and moisturize the skin while also reviving and refreshing.

Key Ingredients:

  • Full Spectrum CBD: known to soothe and nourish the skin
  • Argan Oil: helps nourish and moisturize the skin
  • Shea Butter: provides hydration and deep nourishment

Directions: Gently massage the cream onto clean skin all over the body.

50mg CBD Eye Cream

The last item in this elf Full Spectrum CBD Collection review is the 50mg CBD Eye Cream. Much like many other items in this elf CBD review, this product is lightweight and absorbs right into the skin with a clear gel formula. It does a great job of hydrating the eye area, and it will be great for those with dry skin. But, the buck stops there. It is not made to brighten the skin, nor will it work on fine lines. It really comes down to what you are looking for in an eye cream before you purchase the elf CBD eye cream. A quick tip- keep an eye cream like this in your skincare fridge to amp up the hydration and to de-puff!

Parabens are a large group of preservatives which are used to prevent bacteria growing in cosmetic formulations. There has been some healthy controversy surrounding them due to a few studies finding paraben presence in breast tumours and breast tissue. However, the majority of the scientific community have deemed these findings non-conclusive due to the limitations of these studies. There’s still a lot of support for avoiding parabens following the better safe than sorry route. If you do we completely support you! If you are concerned about the health safety of parabens, then feel free to avoid them by looking out for the Paraben-Free icon. If not, don’t worry about it – they do have had one of the longest safety records as preservatives!

Sulfates are a large group of ingredients which act as cleansing agents in Cosmetics. They help loosen up the dirt and grime from your skin and hair to allow for water to wash it away with ease. However some sulfates are so good at their job, they can wash off your skin’s own natural oils that keep it moisturised and protected which can lead to dryness and irritation. Most people will find no issues with sulfate, however if you find your skin doesn’t like sulfates then free feel to avoid them by looking out for the sulfate-free icon on Skincarisma.

However one type of alcohols, simple alcohols can be quite drying to the skin because it evaporates very quickly. This can cause irritation which can also lead to other skin complications. These alcohols should never be used alone on your skin, but combined with other cosmetic ingredients, they are normally without issue. However, for some people with sensitive and easily irritable skin, avoiding products with these simple alcohols may be beneficial. If you find your skin doesn’t like these simple alcohols, then free feel to avoid them by looking out for the Alcohol-Free icon.

Silicone-Free

e.l.f. Cosmetics 100 MG CBD Facial Oil is free from SkinCarisma flagged Silicones

Understanding Silicones

If you’ve ever used a skincare, makeup or beauty product that’s made your skin look and feel smoother tempoarily – it’s likely contained Silicone. They are a popular class of ingredients found in cosmetics due to their smooth, soft, easy-to-spread and smooth properties that help creates an artificial layer/barrier on top of skin or hair (commonly found in conditioners).

For the same reasons they are popularly used, they are also commonly avoided. Anecdotally, many individuals have reported that Silicones cause/excerbate breakouts, irritation, cause a feeling of skin being unable to breathe, cause clumping of cosmetic products and find it difficult to wash off. As a result, those who find them problematic are avoiding them and increasingly, cosmetic companies are avoiding them as well.

If you have had bad experiences with Silicones in the past, or suspect they are problematic then look out for the tick on the Silicone-free label.

EU Allergen-Free

e.l.f. Cosmetics 100 MG CBD Facial Oil is free from SkinCarisma flagged Allergens

Understanding the Identified Contact Allergens

The EU’s Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS) has identified and established 26 cosmetic ingredients that are likely contact allergens (potential to cause skin allergies) as demonstrated in clinical or epidemiological studies. The EU’s SCCS have recommend cosmetic companies to disclose them on the labels if used and in cases where the concentration exceeds 0.001% in leave-on products and 0.01% in rinse-off products, then they must be labelled.

Look out for the tick on the EU-Allergen free label to know your cosmetic is free from any of the 26 identified cosmetic ingredients.

For more information regarding the EU’s Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety, please visit their official website.

Disclaimer

The EU Allergen Free label is for the 26 ingredients identified by the EU SCCS and products will be only flagged if a suspected ingredient is on it’s ingredient list. It is possible for cosmetics to contain one of the suspect ingredients without it appearing on the ingredient list due to it not reaching the concentration threshold to disclose it and cosmetic manufacturers choice to not disclose it.

Also note, the EU Allergen Free label is not personalized for your own allergies you may have and it does not constitute as medical advice. Fungal Acne (Malassezia) Safe

e.l.f. Cosmetics 100 MG CBD Facial Oil contains a SkinCarisma flagged potentially Fungal-Acne feeding Ingredient

Understanding Fungal Acne (Pityrosporum Folliculitis/Malassezia Folliculitis)

Pityrosporum Folliculitis/Malassezia folliculitis or simply known as Fungal Acne is a persistent acne-like condition that commonly responds poorly to traditional acne-treating methods. Unlike most cases of Acne where bacteria is the culprit, Fungi is the culprit of Fungal Acne (Hence the name!). There are certain classes & groups of ingredients that have been shown to promote and feed the growth of the Fungal Acne, Fungi such as fatty acids, oils, esters, polysorbates and fermented ingredients.

For more information regarding Fungal Acne, please visit Simple Skincare Science (f.c) – #3 of our Recommend Skincare Resources for an amazing comprehensive guide!

Please Read: How to use the Fungal Acne (Malassezia) Label

At SkinCarisma, we’ve done our best to identify as many ingredients as possible but note the fungal-free label may not be 100% accurate due to the complexconditions and combination of ingredients that malezzeria can thrive on.

Additionally, products that may contain ingredients that have shown to feed Malassezia may not neccessarily exacerbate the condition due to concentration of ingredient used in the product, this information is simply not available on the products.

As a result, please note this is only an experimental label that can be best used to possible identify problematic products you have used in the past. It is in no way a perfect identifier nor a predictor in whether or not it will exacerbate or cause fungal acne. It will continue to be worked on as more information and research comes to light.

If you find any ingredients you believe should be included, please email us at [email protected]

Disclaimer

Due to the lack of substantial research into this area it is very likely there are other ingredients and class/groups of ingredients that could feed Fungal Acne which have not been indentified.

The Fungal-Safe label does not constitute as medical advice. For your specific case, always consult your medical professiona such as dermatologist, physician, pharmacist, or health care provider – please read our medical disclaimer for more information.

elf Cannabis Sativa Collection Review

This post contains affiliate links. Thank you for supporting The Aesthetic Edge!

Hemp is an ingredient that is taking the beauty market by storm! We are seeing it in makeup and skincare frequently. You might be wondering if hemp is bad for you. Is that not a drug? Hemp is a naturally derived ingredient that loves your skin! It is known to hydrate, nourish, and condition. So, you should not be afraid of it. This is my first time testing the hemp waters with an elf Cannabis Sativa Collection review. I was gifted the mini-sized collection for Christmas, and I have been trying everything out. All the Feels Facial Oil – elf Hemp Oil Reviews

I am starting this elf Cannabis Sativa Collection review off with the All the Feels Facial Oil. With some oils, your skin feels oily for a while after application. As the day goes on the feeling either stops or gets worse. For that reason, along with my combination skin, I will not wear oil on makeup days. This one absorbs into the skin instantly with no greasy feeling so that I can wear it with makeup! This oil is so versatile for my routine, and I love that. It provides an added boost of hydration that is great on its own, with makeup, or even paired with elf’s other oil products like their essential oil mists.

Claims: This oil should be lightweight and non greasy. The formula absorbs quickly to nourish, condition, boost radiance, and moisturize.

Key Ingredients:

  • Hemp Seed Oil – An amino-rich formula that helps nourish, hydrate, and condition the skin
  • Squalane – known to help improve moisture and elasticity
  • Rosehip Seed Oil – known to be rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and essential fatty acids

Directions: As with any oil, you can apply it directly to the skin or mix it into other skincare products, such as moisturizer. Pat the product into the skin.

Happy Hydration Cream

Second is the elf Cannabis Sativa Happy Hydration Cream. This elf Cannabis Sativa moisturizer is a white cream. Since it is not a gel formula, it will not help to control oil production on oily or combination skin. However, it does effectively hydrate and moisturize all day. It does behave under makeup or on its own, as it also plays nice with elf’s facial oils. While the formula is somewhat rich, I do not 100% agree with that claim, but it is still lightweight and absorbs right into the skin. I like that it is not formulated with dyes or fragrance.

Claims:

  • Rich, luxe formula
  • Boosts hydration and prevents moisture loss
  • Absorbs easily
  • Locks in moisture

Key Ingredients:

  • Hemp Seed Oil – An amino-rich formula that nourishes, hydrates, and conditions
  • Vitamin B5 – Soothes and hydrates skin
  • Hyaluronic Acid – Locks in moisture for a plump complexion
  • Niacinamide – Minimizes pores and evens out skin tone

Directions: Gently massage a small amount onto clean skin in the morning and at night.

Puff Puff Primer

Third for the elf hemp product reviews is the Puff Puff Primer. It features a white cream formula that is easy to spread over the skin. The skin is left with a healthy glow sans the use of shimmer or glitter. It dries down to leave the skin feeling smooth, almost velvety, but not sticky. This primer does nothing to minimize or blur pores. Once you apply your foundation, the glow will be lost, as your complexion will take on the finish of your other products. Makeup does apply normally over top of this primer. At the end of the day I do see normal wear and tear, which I define as settling into smile lines and around the nose, as well as the crease of the chin. Otherwise, a slight amount of oil does peek through on the t-zone, but nothing out of the ordinary. You can see how this primer stacks up against many others from the brand in my elf primer wear-tests for combo skin.

Claims: This primer should nourish and prep your skin. The creamy formula absorbs quickly into the skin to soothe, hydrate, and condition your skin.

Key Ingredients:

  • Hemp Seed Oil – An amino-rich formula that helps nourish, hydrate, and condition the skin
  • Vitamins A and C – Antioxidants known to help brighten skin’s appearance

Directions: Apply to clean skin prior to makeup application. Use a small amount and blend evenly on your face.

Rating: ★★★★☆

Calm Balm

The last product in this elf Cannabis Sativa Collection review is the Calm Balm. I am sorry that I do not have a texture swatch to share, as I completely used this lip balm up before photographing! You can imagine it as a lip balm meets a lip oil, where you still have that clear and juicy shine, but it does not feel gross. So, it does feel like oil on the lips, but in a good way. I love that it does not have any dye or fragrance. I find this balm to be effective when paired with exfoliation.

Claims: This lip balm should nourish the lips and deliver a healthy, natural looking shine. It will also hydrate and condition the skin.

Key Ingredients:

  • Hemp Seed Oil – An amino-rich formula that helps nourish, hydrate, and condition the skin
  • Sunflower Seed Oil – antioxidant rich oil with soothing benefits to calm skin

Directions: Apply over lips as often as desired. Wear under any lip gloss or lipstick to prep and soften the lips. Apply before bed as an overnight lip treatment.
